Truce violation in North of Syria
The intensive bombing targeting the north-west of Syria, in parallel with the military crowds from the two sides of the conflict in that region, summarized the form of the large escalation of the Russia and Syrian Government in Idlib province, in addition to surrounding areas.
Hence, United Nations confirmed that it was the most violent bombing in 15 months.
In light of the continuing escalation, there were many analysis in term of the objectives of the Syrian Government and Moscow, especially in light of the Sochi Agreement between Russia and Turkey, which was signed last September and stipulated the establishment of a buffer zone between the areas of the Opposition and the Syrian Government, with the continuing of Astana meetings among the Guarantor States (Russia, Turkey, Iran).
In this term, the leader of Syrian Opposition, Marah Al-Bika’I, said to North Press “ it is obvious that the escalation ,which happens today in Idlib , is the direct result of the last meeting of Astana.”
She continued ,“in spite of the final statement of Astana \12\ did not present any new, yet, the agreements between Idlib and the east of the Euphrates, is getting clear and the implementation has started in Idlib’s battle today”
She pointed out that the visit of American convoy, James Jaifrey, to Ankara directly after Astana, filled in the blanks; resulted in the obvious convergence between Turkey and America capitals “after antagonism and separation.”
“the settlement lines in the north had been done, and the next is the details of the settlement implementation, then moving to the political process, adopted by the United Nations resolution 2254.” She concluded.
In this side, the Syrian writer Khaldoun Al-Labwani saw “it was the moment of breaking the status of rigidity in the Syrian north.”
He told North Press that all sides who guaranteed the state of stability or the disruption of the Syrian and Russian position, aimed to undermine the situation to overcome this stage.
However, Al- Labwani pointed out that Turkey is trying to maintain Idlib within its influence areas, where Turkey has had patrols and large guard posts in Idlib, so far, to prevent any penetration of the Syrian Government Forces.
