Demonstration in the north of Deir Ez-Zur denouncing the Turkish wall in Afrin

Hundreds of residents in Deir Ez-Zur province demonstrated against the construction of the Turkish army the separating wall between Afrin and the Syrian territories.

The demonstration began in front of the Local Council in Al-Sour town in the north of Deir Ez-Zur (east of the Euphrates), to denounce the Turkey’s construction of the separation wall in Afrin region, in the south of Syria.

The Turkish army started the process of the separating wall, by placing concrete blocks of 80 km length, in the areas controlled by its forces-backed factions of ” the Euphrates Shield and the Olive Branch” and the areas that are under the control of the Kurdish Forces as well as the Syrian Government Forces.

Hence, Turkey attributed the construction of the wall for security purposes that would enable it to block the infiltration of the Kurdish fighters into areas controlled Turkey. However, the leaders of the Self-Administration in north-east of Syria, consider it a completion of  Turkifying policy that Ankara adopted in the north of Syria, and attaching Afrin region to Turkish territory.

Ba’athiya Abdulrazzaq, who participated in the demonstration, said “as Syrians, we demonstrated to express our rejection of these policies.”

“We do not accept Turkey’s construction of the wall because it separates a Syrian region from the motherland.” She added.

The demonstration involved shouting anti-Turkish slogans, through which the demonstrators hold the pictures of People Protection Units (YPG) ,who lost their lives in battles against ISIS and the Turkish army.

“the Turkish policies in Afrin are unacceptable,” Ayed Muhammad told North Press. “We will not accept the Turkish army in Syrian territories, because it is an occupying forces, that entered forcefully,” He added.

The civilian Said Hamid said, “what Turkey is doing in Afrin is unacceptable” calling on the international community to end these abuses.

It is worth to mention, that over the past three years, Turkey built  “the Turkish dam”  project, along the Syrian-Turkish border with a length of 911 km, which is considered the third longest wall in the world.
