Congressman speaks with Abdi, Ahmad on Syria integration
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Congressman Abraham (Abe) Hamadeh spoke by phone with Adviser to the Syrian Presidency Mazloum Abdi and Deputy of the Syrian People’s Council Ilham Ahmad, and congratulated them on their integration into Syria’s new government.
In a statement, Hamadeh thanked Abdi and Ahmad for their partnership with the United States in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS), saying they are now taking key roles in Damascus and contributing to efforts to build a Syria that reflects its diverse population.
The congressman said the United States would continue to maintain open channels with all sides in Syria as efforts continue toward peace and prosperity.
The statement did not specify the roles Abdi and Ahmad are expected to assume within Syria’s transitional government.
On Aug. 25, Abdi announced the end of the mission of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its dissolution as an independent military force, following the completion of the process to integrate his forces into brigades of the Syrian army. On Aug. 27, Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued Decree No 164, appointing Abdi as an advisor to the Syrian Presidency.
Ahmad who served as co-chair of the AANES’ Foreign Relations Department, was appointed by al-Sharaa as deputy of the Syrian People’s Council (Parliament).
