Syrian transitional government releases 49 SDF fighters in Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian transitional government on Wednesday released 49 fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after their names were previously included on a list of individuals slated for release.
A security source told North Press the released SDF fighters arrived in Hasakah city, northeastern Syria. He noted that the detained fighters hailed from several Syrian governorates, including Hasakah, Aleppo and Raqqa.
The source added that the release took place without providing further details about the procedures accompanying the process.
The release is part of a series of detainees releases carried out in recent weeks in batches under the Jan. 29 agreement between the Syrian transitional government and the SDF. The total number of people released has reached about 1,200.
In late August, Mazloum Abdi announced from Damascus the dissolution of the SDF and its integration into Syrian state institutions. He was subsequently appointed an adviser to the Syrian presidency.
