Fidan to visit Syria for talks on integration, security ties
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Syria on Sunday for talks with senior Syrian officials on bilateral relations, the country’s integration process, economic cooperation and regional security.
Fidan is scheduled to meet Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, followed by a joint news conference. He is also expected to meet Syria’s Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Khattab.
According to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, discussions will include efforts to strengthen cooperation in trade, energy, transportation and regional connectivity, as well as measures to support Syria’s economic recovery.
Fidan is also expected to discuss Syria’s integration process, including the dissolution of the SDF, and stress the need to implement related decisions in a timely manner.
Ankara said Fidan will reiterate its support for Syria’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and unity, while emphasizing the strengthening of state institutions and inclusive governance.
The talks will also address developments in southern Syria and Israel’s actions, which Ankara says pose growing risks to Syria’s security and stability.
Fidan’s visit follows meetings with al-Shaibani in Ankara on Aug. 6 and Sept. 8, reflecting closer Turkish-Syrian coordination since the fall of the former Syrian regime in December 2024.
