Syria’s UN envoy condemns Netanyahu’s entry
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s UN envoy Ibrahim Olabi on Friday condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “illegal entry” into Syrian territory.
In a statement, Olabi said sovereignty is not selective and territorial integrity is non-negotiable, describing them as essential pillars of the international order and the first line of defense against global instability.
He said undermining states’ sovereignty would lead to the collapse of the frameworks that preserve peace and order, adding that Netanyahu’s move came amid Israel’s continued military presence and repeated incursions into Syrian territory.
Olabi said international law and the UN Charter are clear, as is the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria.
He said countries are standing with Syria to affirm the need for full respect for international law, the UN Charter, UN Security Council resolutions, and the 1974 agreement.
The statement said Syria has consistently refrained from the ongoing regional escalation and affirmed that it would not pose a threat to any of its neighbors. It added that Syria’s responsible approach of staying out of the regional escalation has repeatedly been appreciated by members of the international community.
Olabi stressed that any military, political or other moves that could undermine the significant progress made by the Syrian government should be avoided.
