Israeli army foils explosive device plot on Syria border
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army on Sunday said it foiled an attempt by three people to plant an explosive device along the border with Syria.
According to Israeli newspaper Maariv, the operation was thwarted after a unit from the 595th Reconnaissance Battalion spotted the three individuals moving on the Syrian side near the fence and digging or placing an object on the ground.
The newspaper said the army launched a drone toward the suspects, prompting them to flee eastward.
Israeli assessments indicate that one of them was wounded, while it is still being verified whether he was killed, according to Maariv.
During the day, forces from the Bashan Division carried out extensive searches and encirclement operations to determine whether the explosive device had actually been planted and to establish the route taken by the three suspects to reach and flee the area.
The incident came a week after the division conducted exercises simulating an infiltration from Syria into the Golan Heights, Maariv reported.
