Jordan, Austria discuss Syria support, regional de-escalation
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi and Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger discussed on Thursday regional developments, de-escalation and support for Syria’s reconstruction in Vienna.
The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen regional stability and develop relations between Jordan and Austria.
Al-Safadi said the two countries agreed on dialogue and diplomacy as means to resolve crises, stressing that Jordan would continue taking necessary measures to protect its security and sovereignty.
He also condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf countries and called for supporting the Lebanese government in extending its sovereignty and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
On the Palestinian issue, al- Safadi stressed the need to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
He warned that settlement expansion, settler violence and Israeli measures in the West Bank and Jerusalem could undermine the two-state solution.
Meinl-Reisinger, for her part, described Jordan as a key partner and pillar of regional stability, praising its efforts to support Syria and deliver aid to Gaza.
She also condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan and expressed Austria’s solidarity with the kingdom.
