Trump says U.S. striking Iranian targets near Hormuz
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that American forces were striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the strikes as “large and powerful.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for what he described as Iran’s failed attempt to add sea mines to the Strait of Hormuz. He also said Iran had fired eight missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan, all of which were intercepted.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) separately said U.S. forces had begun striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran. The command said the strikes followed attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. service members deployed to the region.
Trump warned that Iran would face a stronger U.S. response if it retaliated against the latest strikes.
