Syrian Ministry of Culture discusses cultural needs, proposals in Kobani
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Ministry of Culture discussed cultural needs and proposals in Kobani during a meeting with local cultural figures, the ministry’s director of cultural relations said on Monday.
Yasmin Marei said the ministry is working to understand the local cultural scene in different parts of Syria, learn about residents’ aspirations and incorporate their proposals into its upcoming plans, including in Kobani.
Marei told North Press in Kobani that the meeting was part of a series of meetings held by the ministry in different rural areas and urban centers across Syria to assess local cultural conditions and hear residents’ needs and aspirations.
Syrian Culture Minister Mohammed al-Saleh joined the meeting via video call and conveyed his greetings to those attending. Participants discussed the cultural scene in Kobani, as well as the needs and challenges facing cultural workers.
Several people interested in cultural affairs in Kobani attended the meeting. Their demands focused on supporting Kurdish culture, ensuring the rights of artists and people working in the arts sector, and providing the logistical needs required to support cultural and artistic activities in the area.
Marei said one of the proposals the ministry will submit to the culture minister from Kobani is the establishment of a Directorate for Kurdish Culture within the Ministry of Culture. She said this would provide space for the representation of different Syrian cultures within a broader Syrian cultural framework.
She added that through these meetings, the ministry seeks to listen to Syria’s different cultural communities and incorporate their proposals and needs into its plans for the coming period.
