Unidentified aircraft strike Abu al-Duhur airbase in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified aircraft early Tuesday carried out four airstrikes targeting the runway of Abu al-Duhur military airbase in southeastern Idlib, northwestern Syria, according to Syria TV correspondent.
The identity of the aircraft or the party responsible for the attack remains unknown. Local pages circulated speculation that Israel was behind the strikes, but no official statement has been issued identifying those responsible.
Abu al-Duhur military airbase is considered a strategically important site in northwestern Syria. It is located about 27 kilometers east of Saraqib, near the town of Abu al-Duhur, and occupies a position connecting areas of Idlib, Hama and Aleppo, in addition to its proximity to the Syrian Desert.
The airbase was one of the main military facilities operated by the al-Assad regime and served as a major base for military operations in the area in previous years.
Estimates of its size vary. Some sources put its area at about 16 square kilometers, while others estimate it at around 23 square kilometers. The airfield contains several runways.
