Kurdistan Region PM’s office, security chief’s home
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian drones on Monday targeted the personal office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the head of the region’s security and intelligence agency.
In a post on X, Barzani said investigations by the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Directorate confirmed that the two sites were targeted in Iranian drone attacks.
He condemned the attacks as “reckless and unacceptable,” describing them as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region.
“Such attacks will never deter us from continuing to carry out our duties and protecting our citizens,” Barzani said.
The prime minister did not provide details on casualties or the extent of damage caused by the attacks.
The reported strikes come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and a broader escalation across the region. The Kurdistan Region has previously been targeted by Iranian missile and drone attacks, with Tehran saying it has struck what it describes as Iranian opposition groups and other security-related targets.
Barzani’s statement did not specify the motive behind Monday’s attacks or identify the locations of the targeted sites beyond describing one as his personal office and the other as the residence of the head of the region’s security and intelligence agency.
The Kurdistan Region government has repeatedly condemned Iranian attacks on its territory, warning that violations of its sovereignty threaten regional stability.
