Jordan hosts military talks with Syria, Iraq on border security
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian, Syrian, Iraqi and Kurdistan Region military officials met in Amman on Tuesday to discuss border security and enhance military coordination.
The meeting was attended by Jordanian Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Yousef Ahmed Huneiti, the Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces, the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, and the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that the meeting reaffirmed the parties’ relations and their commitment to developing them and strengthening military cooperation and coordination amid rapidly evolving security challenges in the region.
The participants discussed issues of mutual concern, particularly regional and border security amid current challenges, as well as ways to enhance coordination in addressing cross-border threats and risks, the statement said.
They stressed the importance of continued communication and the exchange of information and expertise to strengthen their joint capacity to address various challenges efficiently and effectively.
The participants also said regional developments require greater coordination and integration of efforts, emphasizing that protecting borders and countering threats require “joint and sustained action” to strengthen the countries’ ability to protect their security and sovereignty and maintain stability.
They also stressed the need to expand military and security cooperation to build preparedness for current and future challenges.
