Syrian Grain Corporation receives over 2.5 million tons of wheat
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Grain Corporation announced on Friday that it had received more than 2.5 million tons of wheat during the current harvest season, a quantity that its Director General, Hassan al-Othman, said reflects progress in Syria’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency and strengthen food security.
Al-Othman said the increase in wheat deliveries compared with previous seasons is linked to the expansion of agricultural activity and improved institutional performance, noting that the corporation had made extensive preparations to receive and market the crop.
He explained that the corporation operated 84 wheat procurement centers during the current season to facilitate the marketing process for farmers and reduce the burdens placed on them, while also preparing available storage facilities within existing capacities.
He added that rehabilitation work covered grain silos, small silos, open storage yards, and warehouses, enabling them to efficiently accommodate the delivered quantities, increasing the corporation’s storage capacity and supporting wheat procurement operations.
