Syrian border guards foil drug smuggling attempt along Lebanese border
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Defense on Wednesday evening announced that border guard forces had thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the Syrian-Lebanese border.
In a statement, the Ministry said the operation took place in the Jaroud Assal al-Ward area in the Damascus countryside.
According to the statement, the smuggling attempt was uncovered after border forces tracked and monitored two suspicious motorcycles moving through the area.
The Ministry said that when security forces attempted to stop the motorcycles, the suspected smugglers opened fire, prompting border guards to return fire.
The ensuing clash resulted in the injury of two suspected smugglers, while a third suspect managed to escape, the statement added.
