British, US soldiers die during military training exercise in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – British and US authorities on Monday announced the deaths of two soldiers—one British and one American—following an incident during a military training exercise in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Speaking before the House of Commons, British Defense Secretary John Healey said a member of the British Armed Forces was killed in a training accident that occurred on Sunday in the Kurdistan Region.

Healey stated that the soldier’s family had been informed of the death but did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the incident.

In a separate statement, the US military confirmed that one of its soldiers died while participating in a military training exercise at Erbil Air Base, located near Erbil International Airport.

The statement added that the exercise was being conducted in coordination with British forces, which also lost a soldier in the same incident.

US military officials said an investigation remains underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident.
