Hegseth says US ready to resume strikes on Iran if talks fail
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Saturday said that the United States is prepared to resume military strikes against Iran if negotiations fail to produce an agreement, as negotiators from Washington and Tehran continue efforts to overcome key obstacles in the talks.
On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would hold a meeting in a secure room at the White House to make a final decision on a proposal aimed at ending the conflict with Iran. According to Reuters, the proposal would extend a ceasefire reached in early April by an additional 60 days.
Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Asia’s leading security forum for defense ministers, military leaders, and diplomats, Hegseth said, “Our ability to recommence if necessary is (that) we are more than capable
He added, “Our stockpiles are more than suited for that, both there and around the globe because of how we balance exquisite and more plentiful munitions.”
Hegseth also said President Trump is patient and wants to reach a major agreement that ensures Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.
The remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue between the United States and Iran amid ongoing discussions over security and nuclear-related issues.
