QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed and five others were injured on Sunday after a hand grenade left behind from the Syrian conflict exploded while they were reportedly handling it inside an abandoned shop in eastern Daraa countryside, according to a local source.
The incident took place in the village of al-Ghariyah al-Sharqiyah in Daraa countryside, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press that 14-year-old Taym Anas al-Zoubi died from his injuries following the explosion, while the five injured children were transferred to nearby medical centers for treatment.
The source said the injuries of the wounded children were described as moderate.
Daraa governorate, like many regions across Syria, continues to witness repeated explosions caused by unexploded ordnance and war remnants left from years of conflict. Such incidents have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of civilians, many of them children.
