QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Thursday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of captagon pills into Jordan using hot air balloons equipped with remote tracking and control systems.
In a statement published on its official platforms, the ministry said security forces seized 142,000 captagon pills during the operation. Authorities also confiscated several aerial balloons fitted with GPS devices that were allegedly used to direct the route of the shipment remotely.
The ministry stated that investigations are ongoing to identify all individuals involved and uncover the wider network linked to the operation.
Drug smuggling across Syria’s southern border with Jordan has remained a persistent security concern in recent years, with Jordanian authorities repeatedly announcing seizures of narcotics and attempts to infiltrate the border.
Syrian authorities did not specify the exact location where the operation was carried out or provide details regarding arrests linked to the case.
