Israeli artillery shells Yarmouk Basin villages in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Villages in the Yarmouk Basin area of Daraa western countryside in southern Syria on Wednesday came under Israeli artillery fire, as four shells were launched from inside Israeli-held territory.

A local source said that the shelling comes amid a noticeable increase in Israeli violations across southern Syria.

On Tuesday, an Israeli force advanced into southern Quneitra and set up a temporary military point, hours after a similar incursion in the same area.

Sources said the bombardment targeted wide stretches of agricultural land, including wheat fields that residents rely on as a primary source of livelihood.

“There was no apparent reason for the shelling at this time other than an attempt by the Israeli army to burn agricultural crops in the area,” one source said, noting growing concern among farmers.

No human or material losses were reported, but the incident comes at a sensitive time for residents during the harvest season.

The shelling is not the first of its kind. Rural areas of Daraa and Quneitra have been repeatedly targeted in parallel with near-daily incursions, according to the same sources.
