Landmine kills young man, injures brother in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and his brother injured on Sunday after a landmine left over from past fighting exploded in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of al-Jarzi told North Press that the mine detonated as the two brothers were riding a motorcycle in the eastern Badia while collecting truffles.
The explosion killed Ahmad al-Attiya and wounded his brother, Ali, according to the source.
The source added that the town’s Badia witnesses recurring incidents despite repeated security warnings urging residents not to approach uninhabited desert areas.
Since the beginning of April, five people have been killed due to landmine explosions in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
