Syria, Iraq cooperate to seize 1 million captagon pills

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday the seizure of approximately one million captagon pills in coordination with Iraqi security authorities, following a series of joint security operations targeting cross-border drug trafficking networks.

In a statement, the ministry said security forces carried out three “qualitative operations” that led to the confiscation of the narcotics and the arrest of four key individuals allegedly involved in organized trafficking networks.

The statement added that the operations were conducted in cooperation with Iraq’s General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, resulting in the dismantling of what authorities described as international networks specialized in smuggling and distributing drugs.

Captagon, an amphetamine-type stimulant, has been a major concern across the region, with increasing efforts by regional authorities to curb its production and trafficking. Syria has frequently been cited as a hub in regional anti-narcotics campaigns, while neighboring countries, including Iraq, have intensified border security and coordination measures.

Authorities did not disclose the exact locations of the operations or further details about the suspects, stating that legal procedures are ongoing.
