Syria’s Energy Ministry takes over Alouk water station in Hasakah

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Ministry of Energy announced on Wednesday that it has officially taken over the Alouk water station in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.

According to a statement shared by the Hasakah Media Office, the handover comes “as part of government efforts to rehabilitate and operate vital facilities and improve basic services in the area.”

A ministry delegation included Khaled al-Ghazi, a representative of the ministry, and Mohammed Mahmoud Othman, Director General of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Hasakah, in the presence of Abdullah al-Jash’am, the official tasked with administering Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), visited the station.

On Tuesday, a joint delegation from the Energy Board of the AANES and the Hasakah Electricity Company visited the Alouk station to conduct a technical inspection of the power lines linking the Derbasiyah power station to Alouk.

The Alouk water station, located near Sere Kaniye, is the main source of drinking water for large parts of Hasakah city and surrounding towns in northeast Syria. Since Turkish-backed forces took control of the area during Operation Peace Spring in 2019, the station has repeatedly gone out of service due to power cuts, technical failures, and disputes over control and maintenance, leaving hundreds of thousands of residents dependent on water trucking and emergency supplies.
