Israeli patrol sets up checkpoint, restricts movement in Syria’s Quneitra
QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – An Israeli military patrol set up on Wednesday a temporary checkpoint in the Quneitra Governorate, southern Syria, restricting residents’ movement and preventing many from reaching their agricultural lands and workplaces.
A source told North Press that the patrol, composed of around 20 soldiers, stopped several buses passing through the village of al-Samdaniyah al-Sharqiyah, north of Quneitra, and carried out thorough searches of passengers.
The checks included verification of personal identification cards, without clarification regarding the reasons for the measures or how long they would remain in place.
According to the source, the checkpoint created tension among residents, particularly after a number of them were prevented from crossing toward their farmlands.
Locals expressed concern that such restrictions directly threaten their livelihoods and add to the economic pressures already facing communities in the area.
Residents in Quneitra’s countryside have reported similar movements by Israeli forces from time to time, raising fears of increasing limitations on daily mobility and access to essential sources of income.
No official statement has been issued by Israeli authorities regarding the incident.
