Two Syrian government soldiers killed in Daraa landmine blast

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the Syrian Ministry of Defense were killed on Wednesday after a landmine exploded while they were attempting to dismantle it in a village in northern Daraa countryside

A local source told North Press that the two personnel were identified as Saqr Mnoikh al-Houshan and Muhammad Muwaffaq Qweidar. They were engaged in clearing landmines and other remnants of war in the area when the explosion occurred, killing them instantly.

The source added that al-Houshan was a defector officer from the former Syrian government forces. He had previously served within opposition ranks before joining the Syrian Ministry of Defense following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, later participating in operations aimed at removing war remnants.

Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a persistent threat in several regions of Syria, particularly in areas that witnessed prolonged hostilities. Local clearance efforts remain ongoing in various parts of the country to reduce risks to civilians and personnel involved in such operations.
