Israeli strikes target military sites in southern Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces carried out airstrikes targeting military sites and infrastructure belonging to the Syrian government in southern Syria on Friday, according to an official statement.
The Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said the strikes focused on command headquarters and military equipment inside army camps. He added that the operation came following recent developments in Suwayda province.
Over the past two days, Suwayda has witnessed clashes between Syrian internal security forces and armed local groups, including members of the National Guard, according to local sources.
In a statement published on the platform “X”, Adraee said the strikes were conducted in response to what he described as “attacks against civilians from the Druze community in the Suwayda area.”
He stated that the Israeli army “will not allow harm to come to the Druze in Syria,” adding that forces “will continue to act to protect them.”
Adraee also noted that the Israeli military is closely monitoring the situation in southern Syria and will act in accordance with directives from the political leadership.
Suwayda province, predominantly inhabited by Druze communities, has recently experienced heightened tensions amid security incidents and armed confrontations.
