Unknown gunmen launch two attacks on gov’t forces in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) Unknown gunmen carried out on Wednesday night two separate attacks against Syrian government forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a security source said.

A source from the Internal Security Forces told North Press that unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire with machine guns on an Internal Security patrol along the desert road near the town of al-Susah, as the patrol was heading toward local oil-burning sites.

The attack resulted in the injury of one patrol member, while the attackers fled toward the desert area near Baghuz, the source added.

In a separate incident, unidentified gunmen targeted a military checkpoint affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in the town of al-Tibni, west of Deir ez-Zor.

Clashes erupted intermittently between the two sides, forcing the attackers to withdraw without causing casualties, according to the same source.

Such incidents continue to highlight persistent security challenges in Deir ez-Zor’s countryside, where attacks by unidentified armed groups are reported intermittently.
