War remnant explosion injures over 10 people in Homs countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – More than ten people were injured on Friday after an explosion occurred in the al-Abbasiyah area in the southern countryside of Homs, local authorities said.
The Homs Media Directorate said in a clarification that the loud blast heard across parts of the city was caused by the explosion of a rocket left over from previous fighting. The rocket detonated inside an abandoned military barracks in al-Abbasiyah, south of Homs.
According to preliminary information, the explosion injured 11 people with wounds ranging from minor to moderate. The blast also caused material damage to several homes located near the site of the incident. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the explosion.
Ambulance and civil defense teams were dispatched to the location shortly after the incident. The injured were provided first aid and transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The relevant authorities are currently working to secure the area and deal with the remaining war remnants at the site, the directorate added.
