Sipan Hamo officially assumes role as deputy Defense Minister in eastern Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that senior commander Sipan Hamo has officially assumed his duties as deputy defense minister for the eastern region of Syria.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Defense’s Communications and Media Department official, Asim Ghlion, confirmed Hamo’s appointment, noting that it is part of the integration agreement signed between the SDF and the Syrian government on January 29.

In an official statement, the SDF said, “Member of the SDF General Command, Sipan Hamo, has officially begun his duties as deputy defense minister for the eastern region of Syria, in a step that confirms all Syrian parties’ commitment to supporting security and stability in the area.”

The statement added that the appointment reflects joint efforts to address security challenges, combat terrorism, facilitate reconstruction, and promote sustainable development, while safeguarding the interests of all Syrians and strengthening national cooperation at the highest military leadership level.

Sipan Hamo currently serves as general commander of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and is a member of the SDF General Command. He is originally from the city of Afrin in Aleppo countryside.
