Syria says shells fired from Lebanon hit area west of Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian army announced on Tuesday that artillery shells landed on Syrian territory near the town of Serghaya, northwest of Damascus, saying the projectiles were launched from Lebanon.

The army’s Operations Authority said in statements carried by the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that “militias affiliated with Hezbollah fired shells toward Syrian army positions near Serghaya.”

The authority added that it had detected reinforcements from Hezbollah arriving at the Syrian-Lebanese border and that Syrian forces are monitoring the situation and assessing developments.

It pointed out it is in contact with the Lebanese Armed Forces and is studying appropriate options to take the necessary measures.
