Two children killed, another injured in landmine blasts in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two children were killed and another injured on Monday in two separate incidents caused by landmine explosions in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from Deir ez-Zor told North Press that 12-year-old Saeed al-Mukhlef lost his life after a landmine, believed to be a remnant of war, exploded while he was playing near an abandoned house in the town of Khsham, east of Deir ez-Zor city, earlier in the day.

In a separate incident, 10-year-old al-Dhafal Ibrahim was killed and another child was injured when a landmine detonated near a former government forces headquarters in Hawija Sakr neighborhood in Deir ez-Zor city center, according to the same source.

Large areas of Deir ez-Zor countryside remain contaminated with unexploded ordnance and landmines left behind from years of conflict, posing ongoing risks to civilians, particularly children.
