Landmine blasts kill man, injure children in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and three children were injured on Wednesday in separate incidents involving landmine explosions in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of Gharanij in eastern Deir ez-Zor told North Press that a landmine exploded beneath a motorcycle in the desert outskirts of Gharanij, killing the rider, Ugla al-Karoush, a displaced person originally from Aleppo countryside who had been residing in rural Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that another landmine detonated while a group of children were playing nearby in the town of Diban, also in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

According to the source, the explosion injured four children—three of them from the same family—with their injuries ranging from moderate to critical.

In a separate incident, a landmine exploded beneath a cargo vehicle belonging to a young man identified as Abdullah al-Rais in the Bishri desert south of Deir ez-Zor, causing significant material damage and killing several sheep that were being transported in the vehicle.
