Syrian authorities report positive start to SDF Agreement

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government authorities and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) initiated on Monday the implementation of a recently reached agreement in northeast Syria, with officials describing the first day of the process as positive.

According to Obeida Ghadban, a strategic researcher at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, government security forces entered the cities of Hasakah and Kobani in accordance with the terms of the agreement with the SDF. Speaking to Syria TV, Ghadban said, “There is a mutual desire to implement the agreement reached with the SDF.”

Ghadban emphasized that the process of integrating SDF forces into broader state mechanisms should be conducted through trust-building rather than pressure. He noted the importance of addressing the marginalization previously experienced by the Jazira region, signaling a focus on local stability and governance.

The visit by representatives of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) to Damascus on the same day was also confirmed, highlighting ongoing diplomatic engagement between local Kurdish authorities and the Syrian government.

The process is set to continue in the coming days, with authorities stressing that both sides aim to maintain stability in the region while advancing administrative cooperation. Local residents expressed cautious optimism regarding the agreement, emphasizing the importance of trust and collaboration between existing security forces and newly arrived government units.
