SDF calls on guarantors to act over ceasefire violations in northeast Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday called on the guarantor states of the ceasefire agreement with the Syrian government to assume their responsibilities, citing what it described as continued violations by government forces in parts of northeast Syria.
The statement came a day after the Syrian presidency announced that Damascus and the SDF had reached a “mutual understanding” on several issues related to the future of Hasakah governorate.
In a statement published on its official website, the SDF said: “Despite the ceasefire agreement entering into force, government forces continued their attacks on the regions of al-Jazira and Kobani, in a clear and explicit violation of the terms of the agreement.”
The SDF did not specify the exact locations or the nature of the reported attacks but said the incidents occurred after the truce was declared.
The force stressed at the end of its statement that it remains committed to the ceasefire and to avoiding further escalation, urging the guarantor parties to intervene to ensure that the agreement is respected.
On Tuesday, the Syrian presidency said an understanding had been reached with the SDF on a number of files concerning Hasakah province, without providing detailed information on the mechanisms of implementation or security arrangements.
