Kobani’s AANES says Damascus cut water, power, medicine to city
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Kobani, north Syria, announced on Tuesday that factions of the Syrian transitional government have cut off water and electricity to the city, warning that this step places the lives of local residents in serious danger.
In a statement, the Kobani administration said: “In another dangerous escalation, mercenary factions have imposed a suffocating siege on Kobani and its countryside.”
It added that after factions affiliated with the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian transitional government took control of surrounding areas, they “proceeded to cut water and electricity to Kobani, in addition to blocking all roads connecting the city with neighboring regions, which led to a complete halt in the entry of food supplies, fuel, and medicines — a situation that carries severe consequences and directly threatens civilian lives.”
The administration held Damascus fully responsible for the results of the siege on Kobani, stating: “We call on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to exert maximum pressure on the government to stop its war, lift the siege on Kobani and its countryside, and reopen roads for the entry of essential goods.”
