US envoy says efforts underway to resume talks between Damascus and SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack said on Friday that Washington is working to relaunch integration talks between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as part of broader efforts to prevent escalation and maintain stability across the country.
“The United States remains in close contact with all parties in Syria and is working around the clock to lower the temperature and prevent escalation,” Barrack wrote in a post on his official account on the X platform.
He also added that the US administration is seeking to “ return the integration between the Syrian government and the SDF.”
The talks refer to discussions linked to a March 10 agreement framework, which outlines steps for dialogue and coordination between Syrian parties, including arrangements related to security structures and administrative integration.
The SDF, which leads military and security operations in northeast Syria, has repeatedly stated that it supports dialogue-based solutions that preserve local stability and protect communities from renewed conflict. The force plays a central role in counterterrorism operations against Islamic State cells and in securing areas administered by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Barrack did not provide a timeline for the resumption of talks or details on the format of the proposed negotiations.
His comments come amid heightened regional tensions, including recent security incidents in parts of northern Syria, and growing international calls for restraint and renewed political dialogue.
