Unknown gunmen kill former Iranian-backed militant in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen killed on Thursday a former member of an Iranian-backed militia in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of al-Dwair in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside told North Press that unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle stormed the home of Hussein al-Omar, a former member of the Afghan Liwa Fatemiyoun militia, at dawn and opened fire on him in front of his family.

The source added that al-Omar was killed instantly in the attack.

According to the source, al-Omar had previously been in charge of the militia’s weapons unit. He fled to Lebanon following the fall of the al-Assad regime and the withdrawal of Iranian-backed militias, and had returned to the town only days before the incident.
