US activist warns of rising risks as Syrian forces move toward Dayr Hafir

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Nadine Meanza, former chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and current head of the Global Engagement Institute, warned on Wednesday that the U.S. and international community’s silence over attacks on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) could be interpreted as approval for military escalation in northeast Syria.

Meanza posted on X that “ Syrian government moving troops & heavy weapons to Deir Hafer front. Turkish aircraft have been sighted.”

She added: “Silence from US & int’l community will be read as a green light—raising the risk of an attack on all of NE Syria, with religious & ethnic minorities paying the highest price.”

The activist further linked the reported military buildup to international sanctions. She said: “This directly violates conditions for lifting Caesar sanctions. Unless the Syrian government halts the violence & enters negotiations to implement the March 10 agreement, targeted sanctions should be imposed.”
