We will not withdraw from Mount Hermon – Israeli official

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An Israeli official said on Wednesday that the Israeli army will not withdraw from Mount Hermon, southern Syria, stressing that Israel’s position on the matter is “clear and non-negotiable.”

“We will not withdraw from Mount Hermon,” the Israeli newspaper Maariv quoted the official as saying. “Our position is clear and not subject to negotiation.”

The official added that Israel has “thwarted initiatives to deploy Russian forces in southern Syria.”

He further noted that Israel is “closely monitoring, with concern, the contacts Syria is holding with Russia and Turkey regarding arms deals.”

“We will not agree to Syria possessing strategic weapons that could alter the regional balance of power,” the official stressed, according to Maariv.
