Israel FM warns on attacks against Kurds in Aleppo
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned on Thursday the “grave and dangerous attacks” by forces of the Syrian transitional government against the Kurds in the city of Aleppo, warning that international silence could fuel further violence.
In a statement posted on X, Sa’ar said the international community—particularly Western countries—owed a “debt of honor” to the Kurds for their role in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS), noting their decisive contribution to defeating the group.
He added that the “systematic and murderous repression” of Syria’s minorities contradicts pledges of building a “new Syria,” amid ongoing claims of political transition and reform.
Sa’ar cautioned that failure by the international community to respond would likely lead to further escalation by the Syrian authorities, stressing the need for accountability and protection for minority communities.
The remarks come as Damascus-affiliated factions continue shelling the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh in Aleppo, prompting renewed international concern over civilian protection and minority rights in post-Assad Syria.
