Aleppo violence leaves 12 dead, scores wounded
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Violent clashes have raged for more than 30 hours across several neighborhoods in Aleppo between Syrian government forces and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, leaving 12 people dead and more than 80 injured, according to figures released by both sides.
Aleppo’s Health Directorate reported four deaths and 27 injuries from shelling that struck areas near Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior said three security members were wounded by artillery fire launched from the two neighborhoods, targeting the vicinity of Shihan roundabout.
Meanwhile, the Asayish announced that eight civilians were killed and 52 injured, with at least 300 homes and dozens of service and medical facilities damaged in what it described as direct targeting of safe residential areas.
The Asayish statement added that video evidence shows the factions attacking Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh are the same groups implicated in documented massacres in Suwayda and Syria’s coastal region, noting that these factions are listed under international sanctions for grave violations.
The statement further stressed that these armed groups have operated as proxies since their formation, never part of any national project, and carry a long record of crimes and abuses against civilians.
