ISIS claims two attacks on SDF in Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Wednesday responsibility for two attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.
ISIS-affiliated Amaq News Agency released a statement saying that militants opened fire on an SDF patrol in the town of Jadid Akidat in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
According to the statement, several members of the patrol were injured, while the attackers withdrew to their positions without casualties.
In a separate statement, Amaq reported that ISIS fighters targeted an SDF oil tanker in the same town, using automatic weapons. The attack caused significant damage to the tanker, the agency said.
The incidents highlight the continued threat posed by ISIS cells in eastern Syria, where the SDF, backed by the US-led Global Coalition, maintains security operations to prevent the group’s resurgence.
The SDF has repeatedly stressed its commitment to counterterrorism operations in the region, working to secure civilian areas and protect vital infrastructure from attacks.
