Suicide bombing kills member of government security forces in Aleppo
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – One member of the security forces of the Syrian transitional government was killed and two others were wounded on Wednesday evening in a bombing that targeted a police patrol in the Bab al-Faraj neighborhood of Aleppo city, northwestern Syria.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said that “a member of the Ministry was killed and two others were injured as a result of a suicide bombing carried out by an individual who detonated himself while being stopped and searched by police officers at a checkpoint in the Bab al-Faraj neighborhood of Aleppo.”
Aleppo Governorate said in a separate statement that “an unidentified individual carried out a suicide attack using an explosive belt, targeting a police patrol in Bab al-Faraj in central Aleppo, after security forces identified him and attempted to arrest him, prompting him to detonate himself.”
The governorate confirmed that the explosion resulted in the death of one patrol member and injuries to others.
It added that security forces are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and have imposed a security cordon around the site.
