Gunmen kill ex-regime fighters in Deir ez-Zor and Homs
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two former members of the Syrian regime were killed on Wednesday evening in separate armed attacks in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and Homs, according to local sources.
A resident of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire with a machine gun on Khaled al-Shreim, 34, in front of his home in the al-Joura neighborhood. The source confirmed that al-Shreim, a former member of the Fourth Division, had fled to Lebanon following the collapse of the previous regime before later returning to Syria.
In a separate incident in the city of Palmyra (Tadmur), central Syria, armed men driving a van stormed the home of Mohammed al-Ramadan. Witnesses reported that the attackers shot him in front of his family, killing him instantly. Al-Ramadan was also identified as a former regime member.
Both attacks occurred in areas under the control of Syrian government forces, where security incidents have continued despite the presence of military checkpoints. Residents in Deir ez-Zor and Homs have repeatedly voiced concerns over the lack of protection and the persistence of targeted killings.
