SDF says Abdi’s Damascus visit postponed for technical reasons
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday that a planned visit by its Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, to Damascus has been postponed due to technical and logistical reasons.
In a statement, the SDF Media Center said that Abdi, accompanied by the SDF’s negotiating delegation, was scheduled to travel to the Syrian capital on Dec. 29. However, the visit was delayed, with a new date to be agreed upon later by all concerned parties.
The statement stressed that the postponement does not signal any change in communication channels or the objectives of the talks, noting that discussions remain ongoing.
The planned visit comes amid negotiations between Abdi and Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa, a senior official representing Damascus, focused on the future of the SDF and its potential integration into Syria’s state institutions.
The talks are widely seen as part of broader efforts to redefine relations between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the central government in Damascus following years of conflict.
Previous rounds of dialogue have centered on security arrangements, administrative recognition, and the role of the SDF within a unified Syrian framework, with both sides signaling cautious openness while key disagreements remain unresolved.
