Syrian authorities arrest member of armed pro-Assad cell in Latakia
LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) – The Ministry of Interior of the Syrian transitional government announced on Sunday that security forces had arrested a member of an armed pro-Assad cell in the village of Dweir Baabda in the Jableh countryside, western Syria.
The statement identified the detainee as Basel Issa Ali Jumahiri, a member of the Saraya al-Jawad, a Syrian Assadist militant organization formed in Aug. 1, 2025, noting that he was apprehended following intelligence-led operations.
In a statement, the ministry said the arrest was carried out as part of a continuing security operation led by security forces in Latakia Governorate targeting the cell.
According to the ministry, the suspect confessed during interrogation to concealing a cache of weapons and ammunition used by the cell to target security forces and army positions.
Based on his confession, specialized units were deployed to the identified locations, where they seized machine guns and various types of ammunition, which were subsequently confiscated.
The ministry confirmed that the suspect was referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the required legal procedures.
