Syrian security forces launch operation against ISIS cells in Palmyra
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Security forces of the Syrian transitional government launched on Wednesday a security operation to pursue Islamic State (ISIS) cells and remnants of the former regime in the city of Palmyra and its surrounding areas in central Syria.
A security source told North Press that security forces began a sweeping operation this morning, targeting specific individuals, most of whom are affiliated with ISIS, while others are affiliated with the former regime.
The source explained that the campaign was launched in response to the growing presence of ISIS cells in the region, their recent attacks on security forces and civilians, ongoing complaints from residents, and the accumulation of intelligence regarding their locations.
He added that “the sweeping operation will continue until the city is fully cleared of terrorist members and security is firmly restored.”
