Syrian authorities arrest suspect in Tadamon massacre

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the arrest of Asaad Sharif Abbas, known as “Abu Kamel,” identified as one of the perpetrators of the Tadamon massacre in Damascus.

Major General Osama Mohammad Khair Atkeh, head of Internal Security in Damascus, said in a statement that “the arrest of the mentioned criminal came after precise monitoring and continuous surveillance.”

According to the ministry, Abbas is accused of committing grave violations against civilians during what was described as the rule of the “former regime.”

Initial investigations revealed that the detainee participated in the Tadamon massacre, in addition to involvement in arbitrary arrests, killings, and looting of civilian homes in the neighborhood.

The Tadamon massacre, which took place in 2013, remains one of the most notorious atrocities committed in Damascus, where dozens of civilians were executed and buried in mass graves. The incident was documented in leaked footage that drew international condemnation and calls for accountability.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that Abbas has been referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete investigations and prepare for trial in accordance with Syrian law.
