War remnant explosion kills, injures three children in Idlib countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday when a war remnant exploded in the Abu al-Duhur area, east of Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria.
Local sources told North Press that the explosion was caused by an unexploded bomb left from previous battles, which detonated while the children were playing near agricultural land in the area. The injured children were transferred to a nearby medical center for treatment, where their conditions were reported as stable.
Across Syria, thousands of people have been killed or maimed in similar incidents. Humanitarian organizations repeatedly warn that the lack of systematic clearance operations and limited access to affected regions significantly increase the danger of unexploded remnants.
The Idlib explosion adds to the growing toll of war remnants across the country, highlighting the enduring dangers of the prolonged conflict and the urgent need for coordinated demining initiatives.
