Syrian suspect arrested in Berlin over planned terrorist attack
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – German security agencies announced on Sunday the arrest of a Syrian national in Berlin who was reportedly planning a terrorist attack, according to the Bild newspaper.
Special units detained the suspect, identified as Abdullah R., on Saturday. Sources indicated that he was allegedly preparing for a “bloody massacre” and had been residing in three different addresses in Berlin.
Authorities reported that explosive materials and components for assembling an improvised explosive device (IED) were found in the suspect’s possession. Officials believe he may have obtained some of the materials online. Investigations are ongoing to determine the intended target of the planned attack.
The arrest highlights continued vigilance by European security forces against extremist plots. Syrian nationals residing abroad have occasionally been monitored for involvement in radical activities, while host countries implement stringent counterterrorism measures.
Authorities emphasized that no attack took place and that the suspect is now in custody as investigations continue. German police units continue to examine the suspect’s digital footprint and contacts to identify any wider network.
